Callie taking her FEMA Basic Test, for the 1st time - May 1997 Indianoplis,Indianna
From the moment I laid my eyes on this little black tri bitch I knew that she was special - she has my heart. Callie came into my life in February 1996 and nothing has been the same since. In December of 1996 Callie and I were accepted to be members of Maryland Task Force One - aFEMA Urban Search and Rescue Team. In May of 1997 we were sent to Indianna, to attend a week long school for Disaster Search Dog Training. A Level II test was given before the start of the school and the tender age of 17 1/2 months Callie passed the FEMA Level II Test.
Callie and I assisted in locating three missing people. The first was a man who did not return home from a fishing trip, Callie alerted along w/two other canines at the waters edge. Divers were put in the water and his body was recovered. The next was a man who worked at a trash distribution center - he was buried by a trailer full of trash. And in January 2000 Maryland Task Force One was called to assist with a train derailment w/a missing boy.
September 11, 2001 Callie and I were deployed with MD TF1 to the Pentagon after the terrorist attacks. We train for disasters, but I never thought I would see anything like this - our country had been attacked, it was a numbing experience to be a part of. Unfortunately none of the canines at the pentagon had any live finds. In the darkness of this horrible act there was light - seeing our country come together and be united - Proud to be Americans!
